People Operations in a Teal Organization: Tools and Techniques from a Real Journey

Add to calendar

When we first read Frederic Laloux's Reinventing Organizations, we immediately said, "Heck yeah, we are doing this—we should never work any other way!" On our journey to becoming a "Teal Organization," we have undergone many transitions and experiments. Amanda Geary and Bob Payne will share some of their company's challenges in moving toward a deeper Teal culture and their goal of developing tools for creating a system of organizational development and self-management. They will describe their real experience using distributed decision-making and organizational structure; self-management for the whole organization; peer-to-peer feedback, engagement, and performance reviews; financial transparency and open salaries; managing the business; and giving voice to the organization. Amanda and Bob will tell you what worked and what did not work, warts and all. You will leave with an understanding of people operations and Teal organizational models, as well as specific tactics that work well. Instead of just reading the book, come hear a real account of their company's journey.

Amanda Geary
Lithespeed

Amanda Geary started her career as a research analyst at 4th Wave, a technology consulting firm specializing in research on trends in the IT and communication industry. She then moved on to Freddie Mac and worked with development & testing to analyze market needs and implement product offerings and enhancements within Freddie Mac’s automated underwriting system, Loan Prospector. Within Single Family Offerings Management she helped to develop Home Possible affordable products. After taking a break and starting a family, Amanda joined LitheSpeed in December 2012 to help with Sensei product testing and development. Her role has evolved over the past couple years and she's currently in charge of invoicing/finance. She also help to organize LitheSpeed’s two annual conferences, Lean+Agile and the Agile DC Executive Summit.

Bob Payne
LitheSpeed

An early adopter of Extreme Programming, Scrum and SAFe, Bob Payne has worked exclusively as a Lean+Agile Transformation leader since 1999. He hosts the Agile Toolkit podcast and has produced more than 170 podcasts, recording a variety of industry leaders and agile practitioners. My consulting and training style is built on years of Lean+Agile experience, an MSEE in computer architectures for artificial intelligence, and having grown up working in my family’s restaurant, so you can expect a blend of technical excellence and customer service. Because of his interest in philanthropy, he founded the AgileDC conference, a “for-benefit” event put on by volunteers from the agile community where all proceeds go to charity.
