My Environment, My Code, and Yes...My Data—Addressing Data Friction in DevOps Adoption
The DevOps movement has led to the adoption of Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) in the application delivery pipeline. The end goal of establishing a CI/CD pipeline is to achieve a continuous 'flow' of releases as new features get built, integrated, tested and deployed to production-like non-prod environments, and eventually to Production. This flow depends upon the continuous integration and delivery of small batches of code, database and environment changes. Data Friction results due to the inability to have the right data provisioned to the right environment, as and when it is needed by practitioners, causing the flow to be interrupted or at best slowed. The tools and practices to manage and secure Data need to be brought into alignment with the rest of the capabilities in the CI/CD pipeline by adopting DataOps, and providing practitioners the ability to manage data like code. In this session, Sanjeev Sharma, bestselling author of The DevOps Adoption Playbook, will introduce tested and proven collaborative data management methods and practices, referred to as DataOps, to address Data Friction in the CI/CD pipeline. He will show how to bring Data in an agile manner to practitioners achieving ‘flow’.
